2 1/2” Gauge LBSC WD “Austere Ada” (?)
2 1/2” Gauge LBSC WD “Austere Ada” (?)
An interesting and substantial 2½-inch gauge live steam locomotive, believed to have been built to LBSC’s WD Austere Ada design, complete with matching tender and finished in military green and black livery.
This impressive model is believed to be an older, amateur-built example, featuring outside cylinders, detailed valve gear and motionwork, together with a substantial bogie tender bearing the letters ‘USA’.
The locomotive displays a fair standard of traditional model engineering, with numerous individually fabricated components, brass fittings and detailed pipework. The enclosed cab retains various controls and a pressure gauge, whilst the tender provides storage for coal and water.
The model is offered in well-used, unrestored condition, displaying signs of age and previous use, including areas of paint loss, surface corrosion and general wear including inside the cab and smokebox. Some components and fittings are aged, and the locomotive would benefit from inspection and recommissioning before returning to steam.
The model has been bench tested on air and runs smoothly.
Expired boiler paperwork is included, although the boiler does not hold a current test certificate and will require inspection and appropriate testing before further use.
Whilst we believe this locomotive to be an example of LBSC’s WD Austerity design, we have not been able to positively confirm its original builder or precise construction history.
Sold as a restoration/recommissioning project, without warranty as to the condition or suitability of the boiler for steaming.
Inspection welcomed by prior arrangement.
