5 Inch Gauge L1 2-6-4T Live Steam Locomotive – BR No. 67720 – Restoration Project
A substantial 5 inch gauge live steam locomotive, which is an L1 2-6-4T, finished in British Railways black livery and carrying running number 67720.
This is an older, well-used model which appears to have seen a considerable amount of running during its life. It is now offered as a restoration/recommissioning project and should be regarded as requiring a thorough mechanical inspection and, ideally, a rebuild before any attempt is made to steam or operate it. Please note, there are no safety valves included.
The locomotive rolls freely, with the wheels, coupling rods and motionwork turning over when moved. It retains a substantial amount of its mechanical equipment, pipework and fittings, as can be seen in the photographs.
Cosmetically it has plenty of age and use-related wear, including marks, scratches, paint loss, surface corrosion and general deterioration. The cab and fittings similarly show considerable use. Nevertheless, it has an impressive presence and would make an excellent display locomotive in its present condition, as well as providing the basis for a worthwhile restoration.
