An antique Dollond of London wooden-bodied telescope, complete with its original-style brass tripod table stand.
The telescope has a long red-stained wooden tube with brass fittings and is engraved “DOLLOND LONDON” around the eyepiece end. It measures approximately 43 inches (109cm) long, making it a substantial and highly decorative example.
The large objective lens is present and appears to be in good condition for its age. The telescope also retains its protective end caps. Please note that the small eyepiece lens is missing, so the telescope is being sold as an antique/display piece or prop requiring attention before it could be used optically.
The brass stand has a turned central column, three scrolling feet and an adjustable mounting arrangement allowing the telescope to be tilted. There is plenty of age-related patination and wear throughout, including marks, scratches and losses to the finish of the wooden tube, all consistent with an antique scientific instrument.
