A part-built Triple Expansion Engine produced from a casting kit as manufactured by the RELIABLE Steam Engine Co., Oregon, USA. Considered the most efficient engine produced by Reliable, the triple expansion engine specifications are as follows:

Size of cylinders: 1 3/4 x 2 1/2, 3 3/4 x 2 inch
Rated rpm: Up to 800
Rated Steam Pressure: 200p psi
Steam Consumption: 125 lb/hr
Reversing Gear: Slip Eccentrics
This engine was the only Triple Expansion Engine available in the US at its time of production, and is a smaller version of the larger yacht engines used many years ago. It is suitable for use in hulls 16 to 25 feet long, and will drive such boats 10 mph or better. The castings set originally included 59 castings, however this particular engine has not been counted for completeness due to the fact it is partially built. The finished engine weighs 155 lbs.
The work so far has been carried out to a high standard, having been carried out by a very proficient engineer - with accompanying photographs showing the build to-date when freshly completed (the metalwork is now beginning to suffer from some age-related effects but would clean up nonetheless). The remaining major components appear to be included, however please study the photos well to check for yourself. Comprehensive plans for the build are also included alongside a reproduced catalogue.
